What Piwigo actually does
Piwigo is a web-based photo gallery application developed in PHP. It allows you to host, organise, and share large collections of images through a browser-based interface.
Best fit: It suits individuals and communities who want a dedicated, self-hosted web platform to manage extensive photo libraries rather than relying on external cloud storage.
Worth knowing: The project relies on a moderate community-driven development model, which may mean slower responses to emerging security or compatibility issues compared to larger commercial equivalents.
Deployment notes
As a PHP application, it typically requires a standard web server like Apache or Nginx, alongside a relational database such as MySQL or MariaDB, and persistent storage for your image files.
